“The Mantis Shrimp” Video Poem in Progress

Screenshots from a video in progress: a meditation on visual perception, the Mantis shrimp’s 16 photoreceptors, and looking back into the past. I’ve been thinking too much about the color yellow lately, as I’ve been fine-tuning this video-poem for the upcoming faculty show at Eastern Illinois. I’ll post the video when it’s final.

Today it’s time to take a break from the digital world. We have to unload about a dozen utility poles that Paula picked up for free yesterday, and to do some chainsaw-ing in the woods. And more cutting up of trees that have been down since we moved here more than two months ago.

Immersing one’s self into the digital world, where type, color, sound, light, and movement can be manipulated so easily, and immediately, and then to change directions, switching gears, and get out the chainsaw to work on creating some walkable paths through the woods — this combination keeps things quite interesting.
